A Family Affair- Rodrigue Molyneaux Estate Winery and Vineyard
Our passion is to produce wine from our own vineyard. We are invested personally in every aspect of our product from planting to growing to bottling. We enjoy the total production process and know each bottle of wine intimately. We like to be hands on with the grapes, the processing and the promoting of our wine. The tasting room is the end product of all of our efforts, so we are always there.
Forty years ago, Nancy and Garry found a bit of paradise and set down roots in the Livermore Valley. They saw its future as a burgeoning wine region and desperately wanted to jump on board. They saw the light when Livermore set aside many acres of agricultural land and new wineries began popping up. In 1997 they bought the land on Marina Avenue, planted it in grapes and have never looked back. For the next few years, the winery unfolded step-by-step. They put their hard work ethic to good use and developed the landscape, the buildings and the winery business that is flourishing today. They combined their family names, and Rodrigue Molyneaux Estate Winery and Vineyard was born.
They thoughtfully planned every part of the property to create the warm and comforting venue that frames the outdoor garden seating – a special oasis for friends and fellow wine lovers to relax and taste good wine. Kalamata olive oil is also on the farm-to-table menu from the Rodrigue’s orchard planted in the 1990’s, crushed in Livermore and bottled on site. The farm life permeates the old barn that is now the charming tasting room. The Rodrigues’ passion is to extend their love of the California living to the outdoors by creating welcoming spaces to share with the public. The property is country living at its finest, with grazing horses, fruit-laden trees and a productive vegetable garden. It is “off the beaten path”-the good thing- but also close to Livermore’s downtown and Livermore’s wine country.
Did we mention that the Rodrigues are passionate about making top quality wine? As a UC Davis professor, Garry’s scientific background comes in very handy. He oversees every aspect of winemaking from the vineyard to the bottle. He carefully analyzes every barrel of wine for quality control and supervises the crush and pressing of the grapes. Both he and Nancy are proud of the fact that many of the bottled wines have never left the property! They walk the vineyard daily to ensure that the vineyard is healthy and invest in winemaking equipment that improves farming and winemaking techniques.
Nancy’s background in business and education and is the driving force in sustaining the winery’s vision. You’ll see her on her frequent walkabouts at the winery, ensuring that guests are enjoying their visit and asking their opinions of the wines. Be sure ask her about her favorite hikes or pick up her local hiking book in the tasting room. Livermore is the place she calls home, and she is involved in many aspects of the local community. She loves to share local knowledge of the place and will do what she can to make your visit memorable.
At times, you will also see other family members dropping in to help out. Daughter Lindsey helps out with wine tasting and blending, and is the principal consultant for wine quality. Son-in-law Rob has the business skills for evaluating the winery’s productivity and financial strength. He is also a mechanical engineer, and with all of the wine equipment on site, you can imagine that this is a coveted asset.
