It’s a new year, and we have a new face at RM Winery. With assistant winemaker Jeff Finch Jr. moving onto other opportunities in Oregon and Garry focusing on the various and growing responsibilities of owner/proprietor, Meredith Sarboraria joins us as head winemaker.

As a Club Member, you know we are a small, close-knit group, so we’d like to thank Jeff, note how he’s helped RM emerge over the last year, and tell you a little bit about Meredith.

Jeff was RM’s first assistant winemaker, and he’s had a great impact on our farming, winemaking, and keeping the Club entertained and educated. He’s managed the one-acre Nebbiolo vineyard, changing from spur to cane pruning and oversaw improved yields for our estate-grown Cab Sauvignon, Petit Verdot and Barbera. He’s been hands-on at our release parties, classes and other special events. Jeff said he’s enjoyed seeing firsthand all of the aspects of winery operations, getting to know the Club, and introducing new wines to members.

“There’s something special about serving what you are pouring when you’ve helped make it,” Jeff said. “There’s a sense of ownership that emboldens the personality of the wine.”

Meredith is a longtime Friends of the Vineyard board member and the third person to get her AS degree in Enology from Las Positas Community College’s Viticulture and Winery Technology program. She has used her talents to support the Livermore Valley’s wine region as head winemaker at Fenestra and a consulting winemaker at Crooked Vine. Her favorite RM wine is the newly released Dos Mesas Bordeaux blend and she’s excited to work with Italian varietals for the first time.

“I am looking forward to mindfully collaborating with Nancy and Garry and continually improving the wine,” Meredith said.

We hope you’ll get to meet her in the new year!
